Man of Steel!
Loved the film. a lot. felt like it was made for me  and I spent my childhood running around with a redish tea-towel tied around my neck, so you know I know what I'm talking about. Superman is my jam.

And I think that's what struck me most about the film: it didn't try to please everyone, it was a superhero movie, for people who like Superman. and Superman did amazing Superman things. God-awfully-amazing Superman things.

I think it felt more like a superhero movie than a lot of other recent flicks in the genre.

Great soundtrack too- get a hold of it if your a fan of filmscores

blarg, feeling uninspired at the moment. I need a comic con or gallery show or something to work towards I think.
I think the last 9 days of rainy miserable weather is to blame :p

Nothing fuels your creativity forge more than seeing someone doing the same thing you are, but better.
Seriously. find and meet people you admire for their art, and get angry that they have skills that you don't.
Work towards the day that they get angry at your Art.

Artist Alley booths can be grouped into General Categories. I have been collecting data for years, and here for the first time, I present my findings:

The Seasoned Anime Artist Booth: these artists almost always have 11ft diplsays, usually constructed from collapsible shelves or plastic piping. The artist themselves can sometimes be glimpsed through a tiny gap in their wall of artwork, usually drawing away, only emerging to conclude a transaction, and then quickly receding back to the safety of the artsy fortification.

The Shy Kickstarter Booth
These are the Artists trying to push their very first comic series, book etc. These artists are new, frightened of loud noises, and unsure of their surroundings. They can mostly be seen at sparsely filled tables. hiding in a sketchbook, awaiting to be discovered.
(they get much better by show 2)

The Steampunk Pirate Booth
these guys seemed to land somewhere between theatre students and Craft artists- usually strutting their goggled/bucked getup in front of the booth rather than behind it, they aren't afraid to put on a show if it means a purchase. Always interesting to talk to, and put more effort into decorating a booth than most.

The Grumpy Old Pro Booth these artists almost always have massive art portfolios ( around 22x36in books) and stacks of comics they've published 10+ years ago. these artists pine for the old days when comic cons were only about comics, and hate what you and your generation has done to their once tiny get-togethers  they usually don't want much to do with you, and spend most of the show chatting with their old war buddies (whom also hate you)

The Loud Pushy Annoying Booth. (main habitat: Anime cons)
These booths usually have 1 artist, and 5 of the most high strung individuals you could imagine. All of this fun, fighting to fit behind a 6 ft table with 2 chairs. This booth will try to attract customers with high pitched shouts and nonstop bargin bellows. We all hate this booth.

Almost every show- a cosplayer with an amazing, accurate, but overly cumbersome costume is going to come to your booth and fumble with your art portfolio with gloved hands until you offer to turn the pages for them.
I'm looking at you: overly plush Totoro.

Regardless of how Large and Prominent you display your prices, 9 out of 10 people will still ask how much things cost.

Every show you go to- there will be an individual, who storms up and demands something very specific and obscure (like GoBots artwork done in an oldschool oil painting style) and when politely explain that you don't have that, he will look at you with utter disbelief that you wasted his time and storm off to the next booth.

I wear a Nike fuel band, which is a kind of pedometer/activity tracker- a lazy day of minimal physical activity will get you around 2500 Fuel Points

A busy day, spent at the gym, running lifting ect will get you somewhere around 4500 fuel points

A typical day setting up/selling/talking/bobbing and weaving at a comic convention lands you 7500-8500 points.

its not only good for your illustration career- its a good workout :)

stayed up late replying to comments like a madman tonight. (while watching community, and drinking scotch( the latter being a newly discovered appreciation))
I know how important replies are on deviantart (when I started up my account, nothing meant more than comments on my work, and little has changed), and I really want and try to get back to everyone who takes the time to comment on my art.

The comments I get on my work- is very honestly- a big reason why I strive to create and improve so much.

I make an especially big effort to get back to questions or effort filled critiques, but even some of those slip through the cracks. Hope everyone had a great holidays :) and I wish you all the best in the new year.

cheers

There are days, that your muse wont leave you alone, giving you more ideas that you have time for.

These are the days for notebooks.

Jot down everything, because some days your muse will decide to wander off.
